RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am interested in the surveillance and spread of pathogenic bacteria throughout California. I would like to know what environmental factors increase the presence of pathogenic bacteria associated with human illness, and what preventative measures can be taken to reduce such risks.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Reducing agricultural pathogens into the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta estuary
Sampling of Central Coast streams and rivers for E. coli O157 and Salmonella, including water and sediment
Sampling of sheep fecal for Salmonella in the Imperial Valley
Monitering wild game for presence of E. coli O157
Assessing current protocols using standard growth curve and flow cytometry
Assisting in the Infectious Dose of E. coli O157 in calves
Assisting in the sampling of wild rodents for foodborne pathogens along produce fields on the California Central coast
